On June 2, 2018 a seminar Appeal to the European Court of Human Rights on the Example of the Right to Freedom of Assembly was held by the human rights organization Soldiers' Mothers of St. Petersburg  in St. Petersburg. The organization lawyers told how and in what cases it is necessary to apply to the Strasbourg court for the rights protection.

The seminar was attended by 8 people: activists, public defenders, students of law schools.

Alexander Peredruk and Alexander Gorbachev talked about the conditions for the admissibility of the complaint, what the requirements for the complaint are, what issues the court considers and in which territories. The procedures for exhaustion of legal protection in administrative and criminal cases were examined on specific examples.

The lawyers explained the structure of the court's work, gave examples of typical violations considered by the court, as well as of typical mistakes made by the applicants. At the end of the meeting, the participants drafted a complaint on the violation of the right to freedom of assembly.

The organization and conduct of the seminar is carried out within the partnership with the Institute for Law and Public Policy implementing the project Enhancing Civic Engagement in Strategic Constitutional Litigation in Russia.
